Children’s/Young Adult Librarian
The Castleton Free Library is in search of a new Children’s/Young Adult Librarian. Castleton Free Library is a small library located in the village of Castleton, Vermont. We are looking for a vibrant and energetic person to oversee the Children’s and YA collections. The ideal candidate has a degree in library science and/or a Certificate of Librarianship from the Vermont Department of Libraries is preferred but we will consider any candidate with library experience possessing a minimum of an Associate’s degree and a willingness and the ability to work towards certification.
The Children’s and YA Services Librarian is responsible for the development, supervision, and coordination of all library activities and services for children, young adults, and families with young children. They also serve as a library spokesperson and advocate for strengthening youth services, promoting the use of the library by all members of the community, and fostering good working relationships with other organizations, particularly local schools. Other responsibilities include, developing programs, building and managing collections, engaging in community outreach and managing the Children’s area.
This is a part-time, 20 hours a week, position that includes Saturdays. There is some flexibility in the schedule. Starting rate is $18.00 – $20.00 per hour. Benefits include paid vacation and holidays as well as eligibility for health insurance coverage at a pro-rated scale. A background check will be required.
